San Diego International Fringe Festival
In collaboration with Juztine Tuazon-Martin and Shaun Tuazon-Martin, we created a small San Diego theatre company: Lemonade Stand. Our first project germinated from a play I wrote for my MA thesis project. I continued to adapt it and we brought in a new group of people to realize the piece on the mainstage at the Spreckels Theatre in San Diego. I was able to serve as the writer/director.
The wonderful experience of working to co-produce Attach[ed] motivated Juztine and me to create a co-written Greek adaptation, based on Bacchus and Philomen from Ovid’s poem Metamorphoses. With this piece, Oak & Linden, as we were developing it, we decided Justin would direct it and I play Philomen opposite collaborator Amanda Ghosh. Shaun served as a designer and we expanded our team. Oak & Linden was a queer retelling of love, growth, and “giving the shirts off your back” to those in need. The site-specific play was performed in the industrial downtown basement of a yoga studio. We utilized some past collaborators, incorporated projection of filmed photoage from La Jolla shores, worked with musician/composer Lucas Dominguez, and fused some modern dance within the storytelling.
