Directing
I love the deep dive that happens when you approach a published work and start to compile notes, pop culture and time period inspiration, and imagine the possibilities set forth by the playwright. Working closely with designers to find common threads and a unified world ignites joy for me. As I get actors and collaborators in the rehearsal process, I enjoy honing the planned aspects of storytelling and the unplanned gifts that emerge.
I set out to find works that centered around characters facing trauma, fear, and isolation. During graduate school, I worked on early and contemporary feminist works that focused on works that highlighted marginalized voices. In contrast, I do love to work on comedic, upbeat, and heartwarming plays with deep underlying themes that insight into familial or societal progress. I continue to do so as I balance my work on plays, devised pieces, and musicals.
Here are some photos of Vinegar Tom, Water by the Spoonful, Puffs, and Machinal. As well as Kissed by the Book, a touring piece for youth consisting of a series of First Folio Shakespeare scenes in partnership with the Folger Shakespeare Library, Old Globe Theatre, and SDSU Arts Alive.
